You have probably been overvaccinating your dog!

Straight Talkin' Information on
your pet's health

Did you know the vaccine that your typical conventional veterinarian administers once a year to your dog has at least 6 vaccines in one shot?! Then they are vaccinated for Rabies on top of that!

The shot is known as DHLPP and sometimes DHLPP-C. It contains Distemper, Hepatitis, two Leptospirosis, Parvo, Parainfluenza and sometimes Corona. For years alternative veterinarians and holistically minded people have been stating that this is too much, especially all at once.

More recently it has been discovered that Distemper and Parvo are the only two vaccines that are definitely needed and that when the dog goes through the series as a puppy and then recieves its adult booster at one year of age they are immune for life!

Let me repeat if your dog has had its series of Distemper and Parvo they are most likely immune for LIFE!!!

Finally in the new century conventional medicine with the help of some very conventional immunologists have convinced the American Animal Hospital Association (AAHA)  and several Universities to modify their vaccine protocols to match the correct information on vaccines.

Don't take my word for it, read it here ... http://www.critteradvocacy.org/

and then if you need more information take a look at  Dr. Bob Rogers power point presentation here... http://www.newvaccinationprotocols.com/

Here are the AAHA 2006 Canine Vaccine Guidelines in a PDF format.

I hope you will take this information to your veterinarian and ask him/her about it.

Just be wary, right now over 1/3 of a typical veterinary practice's income comes from vaccinations. So don't be surprised if they are a little put off by your suggestion that you no longer need to vaccinate every year, unless of course you board your dog or go to the groomers or a dog sitting or school frequently.

Titers for Dog Vaccine

After reading about over vaccination in dogs, you may want to consider having your dog's blood titered for the appropriate levels of antibodies. What this means, in normal terms, is to have a sample of your dogs blood taken to have it tested to see if the dog has enough immunity in its system to prevent the diseases in which it has been vaccinated. If it has enough antibodies in its system your dog does not need vaccination. This could go on for more than the recommended three years! Meaning your dog may have enough antibodies that it may never need another vaccine again! Your vet can send the blood sample to have it titered to Hemopet. Click here for more information about Hemopet.
